What We Do
The Way to a Winning Smile
We provide general dentistry services at our office. For specialized or more complex treatments, we will refer you to a specialist so that you may receive the best possible care for your concerns or issues.
Root canal treatment is necessary when the soft tissue inside your tooth containing nerves (known as the “pulp”) becomes inflamed or diseased. Several factors can cause the pulp to become infected:
- Deep decay
- Repeated dental procedures (i.e. multiple fillings)
- Fractured tooth
- Trauma or injury to the tooth
Some of the symptoms that may indicate you need a root canal are severe sensitivity to hot and cold food or liquids, sensitivity to pressure (i.e. chewing), swelling or tenderness around a tooth, or severe toothache. Root canal is performed to maintain the life of the tooth for several years and save it from being extracted. During root canal treatment, the dentist will remove the diseased pulp and then clean all the canals inside your tooth with specials files. Then all the canals are sealed and a special material is placed inside the tooth to fill its core. Typically after a root canal treatment, the tooth needs to be crowned in order to restore its form and function and prevent it from fracturing. If this procedure is not done in a timely manner, pain and swelling (abscess) can result, and your tooth may have to be extracted.
